There are several options for scuba diving in the region. Murcielago is best explored during the rainy season, from June to November, but it is definitely the best and most exciting place for divers not only in Guanacaste, but all of Costa Rica. The Catalinas are also quite good and even the local sites can definitely surprise you, with amazing visibility and exciting marine species.
The Bat Islands ( or Murcielago Islands ) are considered the best dive site during the rainy season from June to November). The islands are located off the coast of Santa Rosa National Park, and stand out for their excellent visibility, as well as for their large amount of Bull sharks.

MoreA short boat ride from Papagayo, and within the same Gulf of Papagayo or Bahia Culebra there are some dive sites that may surprise you. Visibility of up to 90 feet on a good day ! Among them are Punta Argentina, Tortuga, Virador and Cabeza de Mono.
